Best Way To Cook Spaghetti Squash

Best Way To Cook Spaghetti SquashIf you are unfamiliar with spaghetti squash, it is the Heaven sent replacement for glutinous spaghetti noodles. When cooked, the stringy flesh of this gourd is easily scooped out and used in place of grain based noodles, in any recipe. And yes, it tastes great.

Well, actually it doesn’t taste like much, bland even. But that is what noodles are for, right? They provide a bulk of savory yet neutral tasting satisfaction for you to cook your favorite flavors into.

On the topic of flavors, some of the best spices for spaghetti squash are:

(including measures of spice per average size spaghetti squash)

-2 minced garlic cloves

-1 teaspoon ground cumin

-1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

-1/8 teaspoon cayenne

-2 tablespoons fresh cilantro or parsley

Now, onto spaghetti squash prep.

1. Preheat the oven to 375 F. If you are in a hurry, go ahead and bring it up to 400.

2. Cut the squash in half length wise. This is the hardest part, spaghetti squash is hard! Use a big sharp knife, go slow and be careful. If you have physical limitations, try to find a strong young man to do the job.

Best Way To Cook Spaghetti Squash3.  Scoop the pulp out. Use a spoon to scoop out the seeds and pulp out. Be very careful not to remove the flesh, this is the precious spaghetti noodles!

Best Way To Cook Spaghetti Squash4. Paint olive oil on the inside of both halves. The oil will roast into the flesh and preserve the moisture for a better finished product.

5. Place both halves face down in a roasting pan. You can optionally cover he pan with foil to lock in the moisture.

7. Pull out the “noodles” with a fork. The strands run lengthwise, if you want longer noodles, scrape your fork “with the grain”.

Best Way To Cook Spaghetti Squash8. Serve fresh. Tossed with olive oil or ghee (my fav), and lightly sea salted, it is decadent on its own.

Best Way To Cook Spaghetti SquashThis is a good place I recommend starting for spaghetti squash newbies, a nice and simple side to eat on its own. This way you are used to working with this squash and you can get to know its character, flavor and texture.

Get ready! In coming days I will share one of my favorite spaghetti squash recipes. 🙂

Thank you. I am new to Paleo and still transitioning. I was diagnosed diabetic and am trying to do all I can to limit any medication. I haven’t had carb type items like rice, noodles, bread, crackers etc. in 9 days but I am feeling hungry often and unsatisfied. I miss noodles and potatoes. I do eat some yams and sweet potato but I find them just too sweet, even when I add things to spice them up. So I am usually just a lean meat and veg. This recipe is easy to follow and I hope to add this with my home made sauce and be happy lol
Thank you.
